Zendaya reassures fans in a new interview that there’s a lot more to explore in the confirmed Dune sequel, suggesting her character will play a much more prominent role in the second. of the series.
Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel, Sand dunes debuted to critical acclaim last month, but many fans of Zendaya, who featured in the film’s trailers and commercials, were disappointed to learn that her character, Chani, was mostly does not appear in the movie.
Throughout the film, which runs for more than two and a half hours, Chani appears in mostly brief visuals until Paul Atreides, the film’s protagonist played by Timothee Chalamet, meets her in the final minutes. In a new interview with Deadline, Zendaya gives a hint of what to expect in the second film.
“I want to grow with the characters I play and with people I can learn from,” said Zendaya. “Anyone who has read these books knows there is a lot to discover and deal with. What was interesting to me when I didn’t have a lot of first shots was to see the movie from a whole new perspective, because I hadn’t seen the settings and shots from most of the movie. And watching it feels like just the beginning of this story.”
As fans of Herbert’s novels know, Chani plays a much larger role in the second half of the first book. However, it will be quite a while before Zendaya takes on the role of Chani, as the sequel is still in early production and is not scheduled for release until 2023.
