Happy Thanksgiving Memes, Jokes Erupt Across Social Media as Holiday Celebrated

As Americans across the world celebrate Thanksgiving, many have taken to social media to make jokes about the festive season.

Former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho was one of many to highlight a Thanksgiving classic.

He posted a clip of gospel singer Shirley Caesar saying what she was thankful to God for. This video is popular on Thanksgiving due to her naming various foodstuffs, and has seen multiple musical remixes.

He captioned the tweet: “I’m so disappointed in us as a collective Twitterverse that we almost reached thanksgiving without this circulating the timeline again.”

A recent moment from an altercation at a Detroit Pistons vs LA Lakers game has also been featured.

On November 21, Isiah Stewart and Lebron James almost got into a fight after Stewart was injured.

This moment has now been repurposed to illustrate the desperate desire to get to the Thanksgiving table.

Youtuber Thomas Sanders also released a Thanksgiving holiday video on his Twitter where he played many of the dishes served.

The skit saw Sanders personify how Thanksgiving dishes would behave if they argued over who was more iconic.

Sports analyst Famouslos also highlighted one of the more regular occurrences of Thanksgiving.

He posted a clip of himself entering a home dancing with the caption: “That family member you ain’t seen in a year showing up at the Thanksgiving dinner like this. Happy Thanksgiving everyone !”

Sportscaster Kimberley A. Martin also took to Twitter sharing her joyful anticipation of her Thanksgiving meal. She shared a video of a young man flamboyantly eating at a restaurant with the caption: “Me sitting down to eat on Thanksgiving, knowing I didn’t cook a damn thing.”

The video has been viewed 54 million times, liked over 43,000 times with 15 thousand retweets.

Alongside the many jokes posted on social media, many users took the opportunity to say what they were thankful for this holiday celebration.

Former acting director of the US national intelligence Richard Grenell posted an image of himself and his grandfather this Thanksgiving. The picture has so far amassed over 30,000 likes.

He captioned the picture: “I’m thankful for a 97-year-old Grandpa who stormed the beaches of Normandy as an 18-year-old- and who says we live in the greatest country in the world.”

Earlier this week, President Joe Biden encouraged Americans to continue to work together to build a better country going forward.

During a speech on Tuesday he said: “As you gather together with your family this Thanksgiving, I want you to know how grateful I am to serve as your president.

“And I promised you that I’ll never stop working to address your family’s needs and, together, we’re going to confront challenges that we face and are going to face them honestly and that we’ll keep building this economy around the hardworking folks who built this country.

“Happy Thanksgiving. And God bless you. And may God protect our troops.”
