Fans Think Jake Gyllenhaal Responded to Taylor Swift Drama With Nod to ‘Red’ in New Photo

Jake Gyllenhaal might have responded to all the Taylor Swift speculations in the most subtle way possible, thanks to a new photo making the internet rounds.

What began in 2010 ended pretty quickly. Swift and Gyllenhaal dated for a few months before calling it quits. In 2012, Swift released her fourth studio album, Red, referring to it as an “autumn heartbreak album.” One of the more popular songs on the album titled “All Too Well,” which happens to be #69 on Rolling Stone‘s “500 Best Songs of All Time,” was rumored to be about Gyllenhaal due to tall the lyrical Easter eggs.

In many tweets from Swift when the pop album was released, fans were delighted by the scarf emoji she used to reference the lyrics in “All Too Well: “And I, left my scarf there at your sister’s house and you’ve still got it in your drawer even now.” The imagery, some think, is a nod to Gyllenhaal’s sister, Maggie.

When asked about the scarf on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, [Maggie] Gyllenhaal responded, “I never understood why everybody asked me about this scarf. I am in the dark about the scarf – it’s totally possible.”

Gyllenhaal has been pretty quiet when it comes to speaking about his relationship with Swift. In a recent photoshoot with W Magazine, the star was pictured wearing a red buttoned-up shirt with a pair of heart shaped glasses on top of his head. Many speculate it could be a hint at Red (Taylor’s Version) with the sunglasses looking eerily similar to those worn by Swift in her music video for “22.”

Fans on the Taylor Swift subreddit discussed if the photo was directed toward the drama,

“I can’t stress enough how much this man does not care about any of this,” u/lazarettomp3 wrote.

“To be fair W Magazine caption the photos “Red (Jakes Version)”” u/Nervous_Opposite9371 admitted.

According to fans online, W Magazine allegedly had the above in the caption but deleted it.

“Honestly I find it kind of tongue-in-cheek and cute lol,” u/anxietyridden2020 wrote. “I know there’s going to be a plethora of swifties coming after him but if Taylor’s allowed to write songs about him, he’s well within his rights to respond. This seems very harmless. I don’t think this is him being petty – more like a little bit ironic and in a way kind of embracing that he’s always gonna be associated with that album.”

In November 2021, Swift released Red (Taylor’s Version) a week early. The album included re-records of her 2012 hits and never heard before music “from the vault.”

Red (Taylor’s Version) was Swift’s 10th number one album on the Billboard 200 Chart.

One of the more anticipated songs was the exclusive 10-minute version of “All Too Well.” Swift announced that Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink would be starring in the music video.

In a recent interview with ExtraTV, Swift was asked who the song is really about.

“That’s one of the interesting questions people ask me all the time about songs,” she said. “I think every person out there might have someone they think of when they hear the song, and that’s what I want.”
