DC’s League Of Super-Pets Gets First Trailer

With all the terrible live-action superhero content out there, it seems like the world could use a little more family-friendly cuteness. It’s true, when it comes to comic books, even cute things tend to be pretty tough, and that seems to be the case with DC‘s upcoming anime League of Super-Pets also. With an all-star cast and all the non-lethal action a parent might hesitate to ask for, this new entry into the same universe as Granny’s Peach Tea is poised to ask the question, “what would what if a dog has superpowers and also has social anxiety?”

Warner Bros. just released the first trailer for DC’s League of Super-Pets, and it’s filled with exactly what one would expect from an animated movie featuring talking animals. The main focus seems to be on Krypto the Superdog, Superman’s loyal companion who doesn’t seem to notice much. After Lex Luthor captures Justice League, each superhero member’s respective pets realize they must band together to rescue their best friends, thanks to a push from Krypto.

Of course, these are not everyday pets. When The famous Krypto has power, the rest of the animals all seem to have gained superpowers when a mysterious red space rock finds its way into the room where they all happen to be in their cages. Now boasting powers like super speed, invincibility, and electricity, they’re all finally at the right skill level to strike back at Luthor. Naturally, it won’t be that easy, and as it turns out, they may not be the only pets to receive superpowers.

The voice cast is chock full of popular characters as one would expect from a modern animated film. Dwayne Johnson lent his talents to the name Krypto, putting the former wrestler at the center of the group. Other big names include John Krasinski as Superman, Kevin Hart as Batman’s dog Ace, Natasha Lyonne as The Flash’s tortoise Merton, Vanessa Bayer as Wonder Woman’s pig PB (not to be confused with Wonder Woman’s pig PB). asari is full of energy from Mass Effect: Andromeda), Marc Maron as Lex, and Diego Luna as Green Lantern’s squirrel Chip. Other actors in the currently undisclosed role include Kate McKinnon, Keanu Reeves, Thomas Middleditch, Ben Schwartz and Jameela Jamil.

League of Super-Pets looks like pretty standard fare for animated family movies. Kids will definitely love it, especially in this day and age where superhero movies dominate the box office and it was those heroes that began to make successful forays into the world of TV. Younger audiences probably already have their own favorite superheroes, and now this will give many of them some new characters to love.

Plus, the parents probably won’t be too bored when the kids drag them to see this. There are a few good jokes in the trailer, especially the “…Fed-Ex…” joke. But overall, it looks like it’s going to be a nice stroll for kids who want some more DC stuff with some DCEU stuff a bit less.

DC’s League of Super-Pets will hit theaters on May 20, 2022.
